Hope Town

We are so happy to be visiting this charming town again after five years. It is amazing how well it has recovered from the devastation of 2019’s Hurricane Dorian. There are just a few buildings that have not yet been repaired.

We started our day by walking up the 101 steps to the top of Elbow Reef Lighthouse. It was quite the view from the top. Next, we walked all through town and stopped at Vernon’s Grocery for a few items. Vernon first opened the store in February, 1962 and he is still there at the cash register. In the afternoon we walked a mile south of town to eat a late lunch at On Da Beach while looking out at the beautiful sapphire blue Atlantic Ocean.  We each ordered Mahi Mahi and it was delicious.

Panoramic view of the harbor from the top of the lighthouse. The harbor is usually full of boats.

We took a break in this lovely gazebo in a memorial garden.
