Green Turtle Cay

Having checked off a few more items on our to-do lists, we rented a golf cart to drive into town and visit the rest of the island. Along the way we encountered some chickens and piglets in the road near the dump. Once in town we parked the golf cart and walked the loop around town, stopping in each of the three small grocery stores. Our timing was not good, though. The supply ship was at the dock but the groceries had not yet made it to the shelves. Nevertheless, we found enough fruits and vegetables to keep us stocked. We were delighted with our stop at Nick’s Cafe and Bakery, where we enjoyed some excellent cappuccinos and a fresh cinnamon sugar twist.

By the time we returned to Breeze On we had toured the whole island but still had time left on our rental. We decided to drive back into town and pick up some lettuce, just in case we aren’t able to buy some for a while.

We have tentatively planned to leave here tomorrow morning, provided there is enough of a break in the thunderstorms that have been forecast. If not, we may stay another day.

There is evidence of ongoing construction in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian from 2019…

…but there is still a ways to go. This building is missing a roof and its back wall.

The Loyalist Sculpture Garden. After the revolutionary war some people who remained loyal to Britain left the United States and moved to the Bahamas, which was then a British colony. Some of the names seen in the sculpture garden are still common names in parts of the Bahamas.

Gillam Bay. Conditions were quite a bit different compared to when we last visited in March of this year (below.)
