Once again, I am reminded of that old saying, “The definition of cruising is fixing things in exotic places.” Today’s job was to lubricate the furling boom in an attempt to eliminate the squealing noise it makes when we furl the mainsail. It has been making the noise for a few weeks. George already lubricated the parts he could access a week ago but it is still making noise. Steve Madden, who installed the furling boom, recommended dropping the boom down to expose more of the part (aft mandrel bearing) that needed lubrication. In order to drop the aft end of the boom we needed to fold up the bimini and disconnect the boom vang. I was the assistant so I was unable to take photos. Once everything was put back together we went ashore to go for a walk and to take our trash to the dump. Before we left on our walk we met the couples from two boats which had recently arrived in the anchorage. When we returned we stopped to chat some again—by then everyone in the anchorage had gathered on the beach.

The wind is picking up and we expect it to get even stronger over the next couple of days. We have plenty to keep us busy while we are here.

Even doing chores in paradise seems exotic and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good thing for us to remember.
