Little Bay to Bitter Guana

After George spent a few hours this morning arranging for watermaker parts to be shipped to Ft Lauderdale, then flown to Staniel Cay, we sailed 6 miles north to Bitter Guana. As I mentioned earlier, we plan to stay in the vicinity of Staniel Cay until the parts arrive.

We like the Bitter Guana anchorage although it does tend to have some tourist traffic due to the iguanas that live on the island. Fortunately, there aren’t many tourists here yet. After settling in and eating our early dinner we dinghied ashore to hike across the island. The only trails here are iguana trails so it was a bit of an adventure. Along the way we passed a small cove with its own tiny beach. A few times we were startled by an iguana just as we startled it. The last portion of the hike was like walking on a moonscape with rough, sharp iron-shore rock. I definitely did not want to fall down on that and was grateful that I didn’t.

Yesterday we walked across the island at Little Bay. We were able to walk on dirt roads that have been cut into the island in preparation for a development that may or may not be built someday, making it much easier than today’s hike.

Iguana with a big piece of carrot in its mouth.

Iguanas gather on the beach whenever a boat pulls up. Fortunately, they don’t seem quite as aggressive as they have been during prior visits.

Interesting little cove with its own private beach.

Iguana tracks.

“Moonscape” we hiked over.
