Busy Day

George started his day yesterday by defrosting the refrigerator. While the top door was open I happened to stick my head in to look around. Maybe I was hoping to find some answers as to why we have so much condensation in the fridge and why it frosts over so quickly, especially in one corner. I happened to notice that the gasket that covers the gap where the top of the fridge meets the countertop had a gap in some areas and the gap was largest where we have the most condensation. So, after the fridge was defrosted and dried, George applied some silicone caulk around the gap.

Next, he started the watermaker—hoping that the work he did yesterday solved the problem of air in prefilter. No such luck. There was more air than ever. So much air that George didn’t dare run it for 20 minutes as suggested by Richard. George shut it down and we both went back to the studying the troubleshooting guide on the Rainman website. After reading it again and thinking about what had been changed since that one time we didn’t have too much air in the prefilter this season, I suggested switching back to the filter we had started with this fall. George switched the filters and, at first, we thought that solved the problem. There was less air in the prefilter and George carried on with filling the water tank. The level kept changing, though, and by the time George finished up there was quite a bit of air. We still have not solved the problem. We have decided that we will order new o-rings to be sent to Staniel Cay and we will remain in this area of the Exumas until we can pick them up.

George tells me he suspects the readers of this blog are tired of reading about our refrigerator and watermaker. Perhaps that is true, or maybe he is just tired of working on them!

Once George finished with the watermaker we dinghied ashore so we could walk into Black Point to buy lettuce. Our friend, Jean, had checked the store for me when she was in town. George and I got a ride in the back of a pickup truck for the last mile or so. Quite an adventure! After buying the lettuce ($28.00 for two three-packs of romaine. Yikes!) we looked around the harbor and saw that Desiderata II’s dinghy was not at their boat. We looked around and found Jean and Michael at Scorpios. We stopped and had a nice chat before we went out separate ways. It was great to see them and catch up.

Let’s hope fixing the gap helps. Note: top door to fridge has been removed.

I took this photo when their was very little air in the prefilter.
