When we had to change our plans and sail along the east coast instead of to the Bahamas, then change our plans again to sail to Brunswick, GA instead of Ft. Pierce, FL, I wondered if the universe was trying to tell us something. Well, apparently it was. Subtropical Storm Nicole is on its way to the NW Bahamas—exactly where we had planned to be—then on toward southern FL, where we were headed when we realized we couldn’t go to the Bahamas. Thank you, universe. We are quite happy to wait out this storm at Brunswick Landing Marina. Not only are we tied up snug in a slip but the marina is located in what used to be a hurricane hole for Navy ships. Although Nicole is now a subtropical storm it could become category 1 hurricane. We hope that it doesn’t and that everyone in its path stays safe.

The storm is huge and we are already starting to feel the effects. Since we will be in Brunswick at least 10 days we had hoped to rent a car and do some sightseeing. A few years ago—while we were here—we rented a car and drove to Savannah. We loved it and would have liked to go back. However, when George inquired about a rental car, there were none available for the days he requested. We decided to not even try for the days when the wind will be 30-40 knots. We would rather stay close to Breeze On to make sure everything is okay.
Expected path of Subtropical Storm Nicole. Brunswick is now under a tropical storm watch.
The dinghy is all wrapped up in its cover. The wind we are expecting this week will be a good test.
Yesterday was a slow day. Aside from our usual walk, we worked on attaching a cover for the upside down dinghy as it sits on the foredeck. My hope is that it protects the pontoons from UV damage.
Today we did a load of laundry and defrosted the refrigerator. The frost is still an issue. None of the measures we have taken to reduce the buildup have made much of a difference. Not a big problem in the grand scheme of things.
This afternoon we walked into town for a mid-afternoon meal at Indigo Coastal Shanty. It is a cute and quirky place with excellent food. We sat on their patio which is built around a huge live oak tree. On the way back to the marina George spotted a bakery where he bought a couple of scones for breakfast and I bought some macarons for dessert. They won’t score well in my Zoe program but that is okay.

Glad to hear you will wait out the hurricane

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you both look fabulous! I've been watching The Weather Channel and have been anxious for you as I've seen both Brunswick and the Bahamas expecting this rare, late tropical storm/hurricane! I'm relieved that you are in a good safe spot and not somewhere out at sea. Be safe and keep us posted. You will get there eventually!
Awwww. Thanks! We are happy to wait for all of this weather to pass before we get to the Bahamas. The week we have been here has gone by quickly and we will be in the Bahamas before we know it.
DeleteI love how the universe reveals herself!! Glad you let her guide you!!
ReplyDeleteWe weren’t happy about it initially, but it was absolutely for the best!
