Yesterday we set out to do the errands we had intended to do the day before. First we raised the anchor and motored north to New Bight where we dinghied ashore to dump the trash. Then we motored another seven miles north to Smith Town. We hoped to find a laundromat there and do our laundry. I had found a laundromat listed on an old Explorer Chart map but it wasn’t on the newer electronic Aqua Map. George found a phone number for the laundromat and called to see if it was still open and indeed it was! He tried to find out where it was actually located when he called but the directions weren’t entirely clear. We decided to drop the anchor at Hatless Rock, take the dinghy about 1/2 mile north, and walk to where we thought the laundromat was located according to the old map. The beach where we landed was steep with small waves breaking on shore. After the bow of the dinghy touched the shore I attempted to get out. But just as I had one leg on the sand and the other still in the dinghy, a wave pushed the dinghy causing me to lose my balance and fall in the water. Since we had only dirty clothes with us I decided to wear my wet, sandy, salty clothes and carry on. We walked a short distance to where we thought the laundromat might be, which was next to a clinic. We found the clinic but no laundromat. Some workers at the clinic gave us directions and said it would be about a 10 minute walk. When we arrived at the laundromat we looked out at the water and saw Breeze On! We had actually anchored right behind the laundromat. As I got the laundry started George walked back to move the dinghy. It was good that he did; he found six inches of saltwater in the bottom of the dinghy from waves that had crashed over the transom. After finishing the laundry we dinghied back to Breeze On and moved a short distance back down the coast to Fernandez Bay where we hope to do some nice snorkeling today.
View of Breeze On from behind the laundromat. There was a nice bench where we sat and waited for the laundry.
