Noise Issue Solved!

Yesterday, when we were moving to the SW corner of Rock Sound Harbor, we raised the mainsail to see if George’s latest attempt to fix the noisy furling main succeeded. It did! Finally! George had consulted with Steve Madden, who installed the system, and Steve said there are two sheaves for the furling line which may be stuck. George lubricated them—with some difficulty, they aren’t easy to access—and when we lowered the main we heard just a few squeaks. More lubrication should take care of those.

We moved to this anchorage—about 3 1/2 miles from town—for more protection from S winds and also for a change of scenery. It is pretty here and the water is so much clearer than the water closer to town. Later today we may go out in search of snorkeling opportunities.

Over the past few days, before we left town, we finished the errands we wanted to accomplish there—shopping and laundry— and we ate dinner at Wild Orchids. The food is always good there. While we were at the laundromat we met a nice couple from the boat, Pearl, and exchanged boat cards and cruising stories.

Dinghy dock at the restaurant, Frigate’s. The businesses in Rock Sound are quite friendly to cruisers and allow us to use their docks and dump our trash in their trash cans.

When we were walking back to the dinghy after finishing laundry I saw a mother hen with her baby chicks. By the time I got my phone out to snap a photo most were already hiding under the car.
