Post-passage Boat Chores

We had a rather long list of chores to complete after our arrival in the Bahamas. We have been trying to pace ourselves. In the past we tried to rush through them quickly so we could leave the marina and start our travels through the Bahamas. There are two reasons not to rush this year. One is that we are very early in the season and have plenty of time to go everywhere we want to go. Secondly, and most importantly, we haven’t fully recovered from the sleep we lost during the passage. In the past, when we have worked to get everything done in a day or two, we feel even more exhausted than when we first arrived. So far, we have succeeded in pacing ourselves. We are getting things accomplished but aren’t feeling exhausted.
Yesterday we washed the salt off of Breeze On and the enclosure panels and put the enclosure panels away. George put the five extra diesel jerry cans away in the way, way back (storage in the aft section of the boat that is difficult to access.) We walked to the BTC store to buy a cheap phone that we will use as our Bahamas phone. During first trip here we brought a BTC SIM card that we have kept active ever since. George used to swap out his Verizon card for the BTC card while we were here. Before we left Beaufort this year,  though, we changed from Verizon to T Mobile—more on that later. The T Mobile phone is locked so the BTC card wouldn’t work, therefore he decided it was easiest to just buy a cheap phone that he would use here. We are not entirely sure it is necessary to have a Bahamas phone number but we will keep it for now. After the BTC store, for a treat, we stopped at Buddha’s Snack Shop for an early dinner. We have walked by this place many times but never stopped to eat. Some friends recently told us how much they enjoy Buddha’s so we gave it a try. We were the only customers there but found the food and service to be great.
Today is defrost the fridge and laundry day. The fridge hadn’t been defrosted since we left home and had built up quite a layer of ice. While we are in the Bahamas we will have to do that job about once a week. We have a large load of laundry since we are washing all of are cold-weather clothes. We won’t be needing them here.

We are early in the season. I expect the marina will be full in another month. Although the weather looks gloomy it is actually 82 degrees.
