Our trip from Bald Head Island to Beaufort went well. We traveled 100 miles in 18 hours. Our biggest concern when we left Bald Head Island was the sea state, especially after our experience in the Gulf Stream last week. It turned out that the sea state was just fine but lighter than expected winds caused us to motor over half the trip. We pulled into Homer Smith Docks and Marina in Beaufort yesterday morning and are happy to be back at this nice marina again. We will be here about a week waiting for our next weather window that will enable us to get around Cape Hatteras and into the Chesapeake Bay. We had considered waiting the week for our weather window at Bald Head Island Marina but we were quite disappointed in the marina. The women’s restroom hadn’t been cleaned and, in the shower, had a broken window that wouldn’t close. The WiFi was so weak that is was useless. George walked all over the property in the morning trying to get a signal strong enough to get our weather forecast but wasn’t successful. None of the restaurants on the property were open and, to top it all off, the marina had raised their prices to $3.00/ft. All of that made the decision to leave easy. We had loved our prior visits to Bald Head but don’t intend to return.
George’s topping lift fix held and the wire replacement is to be shipped here. A strong front blew through here last night and, although the boat heeled over in the slip, everything was nice and secure.
