Halfway

As of 7 am this morning we were halfway to Brunswick, GA. We have traveled 167nm and have 167nm more to go. We left Homer Smith’s yesterday morning at 6 am and we had plenty of company leaving Beaufort. The recent weather windows have been so limited that numerous boaters who want to move south on the “outside”—out in the ocean—took advantage of this one. The wind has primarily been either too light or directly behind us to enable us to turn the engine off. We did, however, have two unexpected hours of nice sailing yesterday morning. Last evening on my 7pm-12-am watch I happened to look out to the north and saw a large meteorite not too far above the horizon. I saw it just before it burned out.  So cool!

The potential for squalls that I mentioned in the last blog post is lower than it had been so we don’t expect to encounter anything more than rain. Fingers crossed!

Large crowd of boats leaving Beaufort with us yesterday morning.

An even bigger crowd left the Chesapeake Bay to round Cape Hatteras.

                                                                             This morning’s sunrise.
